A Cat Deterrent that Actually Works

DISCLAIMER: This post was submitted by PlayaWeatherman.

If you have spent much time in Mexico, I am sure you have noticed a LOT of cats walking about. There are many feral (stray) cats and unfortunately plenty of cats that are allowed by their owners to roam about the community (this is dangerous for them since there are predators and illnesses that they can catch).
I do not have anything against cats, but there are several that wander about and mark their territory by spraying urine on our front door and balcony. This is disgusting and very unsanitary. We googled and tried several remedies like spraying the area with vinegar, putting lemon rinds around, using a light/sound device. The bottom line is that none of these worked.

Then I found this on Amazon. It is a set of hard plastic mats with spikes and is extremely uncomfortable for cats (and other animals) to step on. We put them at my front door and fastened several on the balcony gate. I was pleasantly surprised how well they worked. As you can see from the videos, the cats stay clear now.

No more spraying on our front door and balcony.  What a relief!
