BUGGING OUT!!! Termites in the Western Caribbean

Termites on the
 concrete walls
YIKES!!! Moving into our new home in Puerto Aventuras, Mexico was not all sand and sunshine. We had the surprise of finding out that our home was infested with termites.

We were totally freaked out and did not know what to do.  Since we are members of several Mexico informational forums, we quickly used their search function to research if other expats had had this experience and how they dealt with it.

Needless to say, termites are quite common in this region and there was quite a bit of information available. After some research, we contacted FC Fumigaciones del Caribe

They charged $5,000 pesos (approximately $250 to $300 USD) and drilled over 100 holes for inserting treatment in our 1,200 sq ft condo. This service includes a 15-year guarantee.

Here is a video that demonstrates termite treatment:

After the treatment is inserted in the holes, the holes are filled. The company recommends that you wait a day or two before you paint over the holes.

Our original treatment was over 2 year ago; however, we have had the company come back for spot treatment on a few occasions. Boy oh boy…those termites are nasty little critters.

Thank goodness for the 15 year warranty…we need it.

They did an excellent job, were on time and on budget. We also use them for our quarterly pest fumigation service.  We highly recommend their services for termites and other pests.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Some of our cabinets had to be replaced due to termite damage. We decided to replace the cabinets with PVC from Persianas Yarok Blinds. Our contact person is Mr. Moises Entebi.

Here's a photo of our PVC cabinets in our kitchen.
