VALLADOLID, MEXICO

If you are looking for a fun way to spend your day, then plan a day trip to Valladolid, Mexico.  Our first order of business was getting to Valladolid, Mexico from Puerto Aventuras, Mexico.  Our research directed us to the ADO station in Playa del Carmen, Mexico for a 3.5-hour bus ride.
We purchased our tickets the day before in order to take advantage of the INAPAM discount (senior citizen); in Mexico, you are considered a senior at age 60.  On the day of departure, we caught our bus at their secondary station, which is the ADO terminal alternative, located at the corner of 20th Avenue North and Calle 12 north in Playa del Carmen.

The total cost of two round-trip tickets was $886 pesos (approximately $47 USD depending on the exchange rate). The bus has electrical outlets at the seats (which recline), cup holders, armrests, restrooms, and plenty of leg room.  I certainly recommend taking a sweater, jacket or small blanket with you, as the bus is chilly.

Upon arrival, we departed the bus about two or three blocks from the city center square (very close to all the action).  But please be aware that our bus continued to Merida, so pay attention and depart the bus at your correct location.

After researching Valladolid on Trip Advisor we discovered that the Parque Franciso Canton Rosado hosts a public vendor market every Sunday.  We were so excited to go and explore for ourselves!

Valladolid, Mexico is simply beautiful with its lovely and colorful colonial buildings, cenote Zaci, Mercado Municipal (farmer’s market), Parque Francisco Canton Rosado (the central square of Valladolid), museums, the bibliotheca (library), and the delicious chocolate shop.

The square with its lush trees and flowering bushes is noteworthy.  It’s hard not to fall in love.  In addition, the Yucatán vendors have a huge assortment of breathtaking artisan ware.  After eating a late breakfast at the Trattoria San Giovanni Restaurant, it was time to walk around, explore the town and maybe do a little shopping.

We really had a wonderful time in Valladolid, Mexico.  It’s a positive reminder of what Mexico is really all about. It was a great way to relax and enjoy our day. In fact, we were so impressed we are planning a weekend get-away!
