Sam’s Club Optical Services – Playa del Carmen, Mexico

Use it or Lose it. It’s that time of year where our health spending account has a balance. If the balance is not used by a certain date, you lose it.  We decided to use it and review a second optical service here in Mexico.

We shop at Sam’s club all the time and decided to give their optical department, +Vision a try.  We were not sure if we needed to make an appointment, so after we were done shopping, we took our chances and walked in.  We were professionally greeted and asked what services we were interested in.  After explaining (in our very limited Spanish) that we wanted eye exams, with new frames and lenses, we proceeded to look at frames.   They have a very wide selection of frames, with prices that range from $700 pesos to $3300 pesos, which includes the eye exam and basic lenses (additional features may increase the price).

The eye exam was similar to what you would receive in the United States. And they used similar technology.  The exam took about 20-30 minutes, with no eye drops or puffs of air.

TOTAL COST: $9,350 pesos (approximately $450 USD, depending on exchange rate).  The exam, frames and basic lenses were about the same as the Gavia Optical.  However, we opted for additional features (the Diamante Package-see bullet number 4 below).

1.    2 eye exams
2.    2 pairs of new frames
3.    2 pairs of new lenses (both progressives)
4.    Both lenses made with the Diamante Package includes: anti-reflective, scratch resistant, and lighter weight material.

We paid-in-full at the time of our order, were given our receipt and were told to come back in approximately 10 days.  Our glasses were ready for pick-up as promised.  They checked to make sure the glasses were perfect, and that the fit was just right.  In addition, they also gave us two nice cases, eye glass cleaner and lint-free cleaning cloths.

We were impressed by the entire process.   So, if it’s time for your eye-exam, or you find yourself in need of optical services, we highly recommend Sam’s Club +Vision

FYI: No English was spoken.  But with the use of a translation app and our own sign language (smile), we were able to communicate without any problems.
